THE ART
The majority of our images have been drawn by artists, Marge Busby, Jesse Atencio, Mary Connaway, and Palmer Cox. Other artists include Molly Santa Cruz, Edie Schneider, Dottie Wilson, and Margaret Wiggin. In the “Additional Comments” section for each stamp, the artist who drew the image is identified. Many of the images were drawn in 1948, more than 60 years ago by Marge Busby who was the mother of Margaret Wiggin, the owner of Stamps Galore. At that time, Marge’s son had quit high school six weeks before he was to graduate and had joined the Marine Corps. Talk of the Korean Conflict becoming the Korean War was rampant, and the love and fears of a mother inspired Marge to draw images on envelopes that she mailed to her son four or five times a week. When he was discharged from the service, he gave the envelopes back to his mother who, in turn, gave them to her daughter in the early 1990′s. Margaret was delighted to have them and, by then, had started rubber stamping as a hobby. When she showed the mail art collection to a few friends, they told her she should lock them in a safe and start a rubber stamp company with them so … Stamps Galore was born! Marge Busby drew for the company from 1995 to 2000. At the age of 90, Marge, who at the time was legally blind, drew an ink bottle and pen image that will be released in the future. To view envelope art drawn by Marge, visit the Envelope Gallery. Jesse Atencio who has drawn most of the Indian art images which range from Mimbreno of the Southwest to Tlingit of the Northwest was raised in New Mexico and is now a resident of Alaska. Many of the lighthearted images are Jesse’s creations, also.

I love hearing about the new things coming in. I used to stamp so much and had many of your things from a local stamp store which is longer in existance.I am 87 yrs. old , so I do not stamp as much as I used to. But I still make cards for my family. So I enjoy geting the news. Thank you.
Welcome back, Margaret! I’ve missed you and think about you every single time I cut the corner off an envelope with the stamp for my local Sons of Norway charity! My brownie collection from you is still well used and I plan to try to round out my collection now you’re back. Christmas money for brownie sheets–that’s my wish list to Santa!
Hi Jan, Nice to hear from you. I hope Santa is good to you this Christmas. I have Brownies just waiting to join your collection. It’s heart warming to hear that you are still saving used stamps for Tubfrim in Norway. I’ve recently moved to North Idaho, am less than 2 miles from my daughter and am enjoying spending time with family.
If one were to purchase all 13 sheets of brownies, would that include your entire colleciton? thanks!
The 13 sheets include all my collection except for one image, “Dancing – Music Reading” which can be viewed at the following page on my site: http://stampsgalore.com/products-page/brownies/dancing-music-reading/. Because it is a silhouette, I had to put it on a board with other silhouettes to create it. Thanks for your interest in my stamps!
thanks so much! i’m so excited!!!!
I received your order and will let you know when I’ve mailed it. You will enjoy the Brownies so-o-o-o-o much!
Incidentally, you can blame B Shupp’s most recent brownie submission to RSM for my new passion about brownies!
